One of The Best Things I Did To Save My Sanity As A Working and Homeschooling Mom

Being a mom is one of the most fulfilling roles you can have in life, but let’s be real, it can also be overwhelming and exhausting at times. The constant balancing act of work, home-life, and everything in between can quickly lead to burnout and feelings of guilt for needing a break. However, it’s crucial to prioritize taking quiet moments for yourself throughout the day to regulate your nervous system and feel grounded, peaceful, and confident. If you want to practice more mindful parenting techniques to reduce stress in your family life and recover from burnout, read on!

The BEST thing I did was start to make 10 minute breaks a daily habit, as often as I felt necessary. I say, “I need to sit for 10 minutes,” and try my best not to be on my phone or do any work. As a fellow working mom, I understand how challenging it can be to make time for stillness, but trust me, it’s worth it.

As much as people like to tote the word, “super-mom” I feel like it perpetuates the feeling of failure when you can’t seem to live up to that title. Moms are incredible, but we’re still human, and desperately need breaks just like everybody else.

Taking a few minutes for yourself to slow down and breathe deeply can have a significant impact on your emotional well-being and physical health. When you’re constantly on the go and operating under high-stress levels, it can take a toll on your body. By making time for stillness, you can reduce stress levels, regulate your nervous system, and improve your overall mood. You’ll also find that taking a few moments for yourself can help improve your focus and productivity throughout the day. When you’re calm and centered, you’re better equipped to handle the demands of motherhood and everyday life.

Tips for Making Quiet Moments Happen

I understand that it can be challenging to make time for stillness, particularly if you have young children at home or a busy work schedule. I have found that it’s vital to prioritize taking a break and not overfilling your schedule. The best way to make quiet moments happen is to schedule them just like you would any other appointment. Carve out ten minutes in the morning before your day begins, and take a break mid-day to recharge, or heck, however many times a day you need. Listen to your body! If you’re having trouble staying focused, try using a meditation app, youtube video, or guided breathing exercise to help you relax.

Dealing with Chaos at Home

Let’s face it; sometimes the chaos in our homes can make it difficult to find peace and stillness. It can be helpful to have a designated spot for breaks. It can be as simple as a cozy chair in a corner of your bedroom or a floor pillow in your living room. The key is to find a spot that makes you feel calm and peaceful.

It can be as little as 10 minutes a day, where you just sit and breathe, go outside, or read a book. When you intentionally make time for stillness, you’re giving yourself permission to slow down and take care of yourself.

Finally, it’s time to release any guilt you may feel about taking quiet moments for yourself. As a mom, it’s easy to feel like there’s always something you should be doing. However, taking care of yourself is essential to being the best mom, partner, and employee you can be. Remember, when you feel good, your family benefits too.

When you’re taking quiet moments for yourself, it’s important to avoid distractions like your phone or television. Try to disconnect from your devices and focus on your breathing or other relaxation techniques, and don’t forget to drop your shoulders :). When you let go of distractions, you allow yourself to be present in the moment, which can help reduce stress and anxiety.

Regaining Balance

As a working mom, finding balance can seem impossible at times. You may feel pulled in all directions, or like you have to choose between your career and your family. However, taking quiet moments for yourself can help you regain balance in your life. When you prioritize finding moments of peace and regulating your nervous system, you can feel more successful in all areas of your life. Remember, taking care of yourself isn’t selfish; it’s essential for a healthy and happy life.

Mama, you deserve a break. Don’t feel guilty about taking a few minutes to yourself throughout the day. I know you don’t want to disappoint or let your family down. So, go ahead, take a deep breath, and take a well-deserved moment for yourself.
